Temporary downtime + Newground hits

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Sorry for the temporary downtime over the last 24 hours or so. Should all be cleared up now.

In other news, my latest album, Mass Media Constant, is now available on iTunes! It has been getting some serious attention over at the Audio Portal on Newgrounds.com, with “Necromancy” topping the all-time music charts and receiving over 1,500 reviews and 22,000 streams. “Bushido Blade” is quickly rising the ranks as well, being rated “Best of the Week” and topping the drum and bass charts.

Remember, you can grab two tracks for free at Protagonist Records, the label releasing the album. There’s plenty more great music from other artists there too!

TranceCritic reviews System: “Epic… 10/10!”

Friday, September 12th, 2008

A fan emailed me today saying that TranceCritic.com has just reviewed my “System” EP release (PGR038.) I checked it out and was blown away; the reviewer was extremely positive! Here was his conclusion:

“Erm… there’s nothing wrong this release. Nothing. Production, writing, dancefloor efficiency, home listening value… Zircon has delivered a release that is airtight in every relevant department, and more than that is refreshing. Here is a track that harks back to the best of dance music’s past and yet manages to seamlessly integrate such influences with production that is bang up to date. Full marks for singles are very rare because the format is limited generally, and there’s usually one duff remix to drag the whole affair down a mark or two. Not here. 10/10 seems overly profound a score for two tracks that don’t clock up ten minutes between them, but as the mantra goes: quality over quantity.”

Definitely the most glowing feedback I’ve received from a reviewer before. Consider that a strong recommendation to pick up the EP, which is available on iTunes, Juno Records, Beatport, and all other major digital retailers. :)

Blake Dannen features zircon as “Music of the Month”!

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

If you’re in the eastern Pennsylvania area, there’s a good chance you’ve already heard of Blake Dannen - or more precisely, you’ve probably heard his voice. A radio personality in the Lehigh Valley area for over a decade, Blake currently resides on 99.9FM “The Hawk”, a classic hits station (check out his host page here) at 2-7PM, as well as 93.3FM (WMMR) in Philadelphia.

I first met Blake (online, that is) via MySpace, where I saw he was a fan of BT and The Crystal Method, two of my own favorite artists, as well as a myriad of other bands from Led Zeppelin to The Clash. On his MySpace page, he has a blog with a monthly feature called “Music of the Month” where he features and interviews musicians from a wide range of genres. I was honored to hear that he wanted to have me as the featured artist for March!

So, the interview is now up: just click here to get to Blake’s page, and then go to the blog. It’s pretty in-depth - if you’re curious about how I ended up producing music and remixing, I think you’ll find it interesting! You can also read entries for previous months as well as lots of other great content. You’ll notice “Mindbender” is his profile song, too… this guy is a class act :) So, definitely check out his page, tune into “The Hawk” if you’re in the area, and show your support for a great DJ!
